Countdown to Closing (Retirement)

“It could be two years, it could be two months.”

Today (Feb 24, 2021), we are announcing our Countdown to Closing (Retirement).

Our building has been listed for sale and after 26 years serving Vietnamese noodle soup (pho) to Edmontonians, we're preparing to close King Noodle House.

We’re still open for now!

But we decided to let you know about the impending closure so it isn’t a surprise when we sell and / or if we do suddenly close once there is a sale. So you have time to get your pho 🍜 fix in before it’s gone. We hope you do!

As the quote says above (from Moustache Man 👨🏻 himself!), it could take two years, two months, less or longer, to sell.

Yes, the pandemic accelerated our retirement. This past year has been the worst our restaurant has seen since in our 26 years in business.

But we've been looking ahead to retirement for some time now.

Our original building on 107 Ave and 112 Street, first opened in 1995.

We first opened King Noodle House Pho Hoang in 1995 at our original location on 107 Ave and 112 St. We moved to our current Chinatown location in 2006 and have been there ever since.

As a small, family-owned, family-run restaurant, we’ve been described as a hidden gem, a hole-in-the-wall, a no-nonsense, cash-only, soup joint—one of the best in the city.

Our broth simmers for up to 14 hours each day and the recipe has been passed down over three generations.

Our soup is the star, and what has brought customers in since 1995.

In our best years, the dining room was full each day—customers regularly drove in from all over the city, included us as stops during road trips, and told us they preferred our pho over the bowls they had travelling Vietnam.

Over the years, Dad became affectionately known as Moustache Man by our regulars, but his straight-to-the-point, no-nonsense demeanour could be a surprise for new customers. The three Hoang kids grew up working at the restaurant—from handing out tea cups to taking orders, helping in the kitchen and everything in between.

Broth certainly runs through all of our veins. 🍜

But Mom and Dad are looking forward to retirement. It's been a tough year. And they've worked really hard at this restaurant for 26 years.

We hope the Countdown to Closing / Retirement is a smooth one.

So please, continue to support us! Order #PhoToGo. Or dine in. Get our soup while you still can! We are still here to serve you as we countdown to retirement.

Thank you to all of our customers.

And if you are or know someone who wants to buy the building (downstairs restaurant / upstairs office space - currently used as living quarters), please let us know!
